How long does it take to hear a yes or no from an independent record label for a submission done through email? Do you get a “no” quicker than a “yes”? Do they even send a “no” in reply, or just not respond if they aren’t interested? Thanks in advance.

ny guess is that you wont hear anything if they aren’t impressed. they also may have it, but not get a chance to listen to it right away. a lot of record labels get tons and tons of demos all of the time. the chance that they listen to it and like it enough to contact you is slim. not to take away any hope for you. just remember that there are thousands of artists out there trying to be discovered.
i’ve heard a lot of people are finding luck via myspace music and youtube. labels will see groups with large followings and gain intrest. the same can be said with ticket sales at local shows, and album sales. so those may be worth trying (if you haven’t already) if sending demos out doesn’t work.
good luck
